The Place We Went to Yesterday – Cover Shoot

The Place We Went to Yesterday – Cover Shoot

At this point in The Process, I’m still wrapping up a few loose ends.  While the novel itself is in its final form and has been for a while, there is still a lot of work left to be done when headed down the path of self-publishing.  Oh, yes, here’s an announcement:  I’ve stopped querying agents.  I find their boilerplate rejections unhelpful, at best, and discouraging at worst.  I’ve been in and around the indie publishing scene for about a year now and I think that with some of the strategies I’ve picked up along the way, I could do just fine putting my work out there under my own press.

That’s not without its challenges either and it’s a lot of work in an area that I don’t know much about.  So, I’ve had to shorten that learning curve significantly.  What that means to you?  My goal is to have The Place We Went to Yesterday available for purchase in early December 2014.  With that said, there’s still quite a lot that needed to get done:  the cover, for instance.

Yesterday, I dragged the embodiment of Ella Santia – my niece – to a nearby nature preserve and we managed to get what I think were the shots we needed in under an hour.  That might not sound terribly impressive to some of you, but just think about how many times it can take to get that selfie just…right.  The struggle is real!

I couldn’t decide between the two of these because I think they both have their merits, so, here’s the deal:  Comment on this post and tell me which one you like more (and a brief description of why would be great!). One random winner will receive a signed paperback copy of the book when it’s available.  It’s that simple!  Tell me what you like (or don’t like, as the case may be) and you’ll be entered to win!

Add your comments to this post no later than October 31st for your chance to win.  The winner will be announced on or before November 3rd.

Without further ado, I give you the samples:

  1. I like option 1. Because at first glance I actually thought option 2 was a cemetery. The city portion of option one looks more “gritty” and urban to me.

  2. I like option 1. The colors and the font looks better. The pictures are more visible but they work well together.

  3. I like option 1 also and think it looks great, one question would it be possible to have the line between the forest and the city come right down through the figure of the woman? sort of like past/future being torn, just a thought otherwise I think #1 looks great as is. How exciting!

  4. I like the first one. The figure appears smaller against the skyline and that seems more appropriate. I also like the negative imaged skyline and the font better on that one.

  5. Hi Lisa,
My vote is for option #1 as well. The font is nice and clear, easy to read title and the picture works better (in my opinion) with the woods imposed on the city–the other washes the city away a bit, I wasn’t sure what I was looking at at first.

  6. Option 1. I can’t explain why but #2 does not appeal to me at all.

  7. Ok..SO I am not sure what its about so it really depends.

Option 1 stands out to me as an indie music rock band. Its easier to read too, and overall stands out very well.

Option 2 looks like it might be a horror story. I think its the font.
